Mourning Dove in the Evening

I rather like these birds. They’re the only ones I know of, aside from swans, whose wings make a substantial sound during flight. A reader told me recently that some people don’t like their coo-coo-ing but I personally don’t see how that’s possible. It’s a soft, gentle sound, and I welcome it morning, noon, or night.

Usually they fly away from quite a distance, but this one was on the ground in a nearby garden and seemed okay with me photographing her.

Is it just a pigeon? Sort of. They are related, but not exactly the same.
