Doe Before Coffee

There’s a park about 10 miles from here that has a large population of deer. Trouble is, if you were lucky enough to see any of them, all you would see is their butts moving away at high speed.

A different park is also 10 miles away but in a slightly different direction and nobody hunts deer there. They’re not “tame;” you can’t touch them, but if you want to photograph them, it’s easy to do.

There’s a small swamp at that park, meadows with wildflowers, a river as well, and the deer are everywhere around. I figure I’ve been there 200 times and I have found that morning time is the best time, even before coffee. Okay, even before the second cup of coffee.

Know what’s cool about a deer in silhouette at this angle? You can’t actually tell if she’s looking toward the camera or away from it. To be honest, I don’t really remember!
